Adam & Magda – Same Day Edit – A Proper Polish Party

Magda & Adam are two Doctors working in Boston, MA. They both come from Polish descent and decided to get married in Barrie, where Magda’s parents live. We realized very quickly that the Polish community is a very closely knit family.

We prepared this Same Day Edit for Magda & Adam and used our brand new Canon Realis SX80 Mark II projector to share it with everyone. It was the first ever Same Day Edit that we publicly displayed!

If you haven’t heard of a Wedding Same Day Edit before, basically, we film and edit a short piece the day of your wedding and have it ready to air at your reception! The experience is incredible – especially when it’s kept a secret!

We had a tonne of fun with this Same Day Edit. Magda & Adam didn’t know when they planned their wedding that pretty much all of Toronto’s major routes would be shut down for the G20 Summit. There were times when the 427 was shut down completely – or when you couldn’t get on to the 400 because a motorcade was coming through.

Once we arrived back at the reception hall though, the party really got started! Their wedding was a unique experience for us in that it was just about 100% Polish. The entire ceremony and speeches were all in Polish. We, unfortunately don’t speak Polish (yet! we’re going to learn though, that’s for sure!)

Trying to figure out when first dances or cake cutting or even when the couple is named Man and Wife is fairly straight forward in English – but man did we have an adventure basically learning a new language tonight!

I would like to thank Magda & Adam for having us along for their wedding day. It was a blast and one that we will remember for sure!

Pte. Kevin McKay Remembered

Kevin McKay gave his life for his country. McKay is the sixth member of the Canadian military to die in Afghanistan this year, and the 144th to die as part of the Afghan mission since it began in 2002.

A soldier’s soldier whose toughness and courage under fire embodied the very spirit of the Canadian military was killed Thursday when he touched off an improvised explosive device just days before he was scheduled to return home.

Pte. Kevin McKay, 24, of the Edmonton-based 1st Battalion, Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry, was on an evening foot patrol when the blast occurred in Nakhonay, a village of about 2,000 people in the heart of the Panjwaii district, some 15 kilometres southwest of Kandahar city  - Tara Brautigam, The Canadian Press.

The Canadian Hero Fund is a charitable organization dedicated to supporting Canadian military personnel and their families. As a national civilian charity, the Canadian Hero Fund raises money through community, grassroots efforts and acts as a conduit for all Canadians to show their support and care for military families and their sacrifice.

The initial project of the Canadian Hero Fund is to provide post-secondary scholarships to the children and spouses of fallen Canadian soldiers. Scholarships awarded by the Fund help finance post-secondary education at government-accredited universities, colleges and technical schools.

Katie & Bryan – an introduction of sorts…

We filmed Katie & Bryan’s Wedding Video in August of 2009. What a fantastic couple. Here’s the first three minutes of their wedding film by Sorlie Arts. If you’re looking for a wedding video in Barrie, Ontario or in Toronto or even the Muskoka region, give Sorlie Arts a call. We would love to film your wedding in 2010.

Wedding Film vs Wedding Video – Sorlie Arts – Barrie, ON

Tomorrow we head off to Austin…. Emily and I are both very excited about what we’re going to learn in Texas surrounded by some of the world’s great cinematographers and editors.  We’ve been planning this trip for quite some time now and we’ll have a great time, that’s for sure.  But some people are asking, why are you guys going?  What are you hoping to learn?  If you break down what Sorlie Arts is all about, you’d probably find that we make wedding videos in Barrie, Ontario.  But we think our wedding videos are more like mini films.  We actually call ourselves Barrie’s Wedding Filmmakers.  Now, we say Barrie because that is where we live, but we would certainly love to work with couples who are getting married up north in Muskoka or even in Toronto and the rest of the GTA.  In fact, we have 6 weddings this year that are not in Barrie.  We do travel for some of our weddings.

What’s the difference between a wedding video and a wedding film?

Well, there is no recipe or template for a wedding film.  It’s about your story.  What happened on the day.  We look for things that are interesting that you would want to remember – or maybe that you didn’t even see.  Where as with a wedding video – it’s pretty simple.  The camera goes up on a tripod, the record button is pressed, you walk down the aisle and maybe you get a speech or two recorded.  You will then get a DVD and you will probably watch it once.  But ask your friends to sit  down with you and watch it more than once – we’ll see if they return your calls!  (kidding – but not really).

What Sorlie Arts does is creates documentary like film about the events of your day.  We use professional HD cameras and other tools that are being used in Hollywood to produce Wedding Films.  Our ‘Main Feature’ doesn’t actually include the entire ceremony or the speeches.  Who wants to sit through that every time?  We add highlights and put the pieces together, through in a couple of great songs that you can pick if you like and the result is pretty fantastic.

You have the option of having your ceremony & speeches unedited as a separate option on your DVD menu – which is great because you can watch them whenever you want but your friends and family can be spared if they need to be :)

Have a look at some of our highlight clips – they will give you the look and feel of our wedding cinematography.

We only get to work with a handful of couples each year and we take our time to make sure their story is unique.

We would love to sit down with you and discuss turning your wedding video expectations into wedding film excitement.
